I’m very sorry for what happened with your son; I do feel that it can be unfair to discontinue contact without signalling you’re doing so, and without describing why. In my case, I told my mom a time frame — I need no contact for at least x period of time, and until you can change your behavior. I’m not opposed to trying to mend things if there are serious changes in behavior, especially because I believe my mother has a mental illness and it’s hard to ascertain what all you can blame someone for. At any rate, thank you for your comment — you’ve given me much to think about, and I hope your son does reach out at some point.
